They haven't idolized American society since the 1950s. Americans tend to view their society as the lesser of many evils rather than idolize it. That's the whole problem is that instead of concentrating on what actually works or how to really improve our society most people spend all their time trying to avoid their nightmares. If anything Americans are guilty of projecting their culture onto all others (ethnocentrism) and assuming everybody must want to spend all their days avoiding their worst nightmares rather than getting on with life.
Stupidity and arrogance.
Americans ***** about America more than any other nationality I know. I don't know where this whole "Americans are blind patriots" thing comes from.....But maybe that's just where I live.
Because it sucks, but it's better than any other society out there, so it's great.
because America is God.. or was that Satan? .. I can't remember now
It's publicity. Since the first industrial revolution, US' governments have been doing everything to promote the "american way of life" ideal. It stimulates consumption, keeps capitalism 'working'.
Get involved! If we as a society set back and let government do as they please just because it doesn't directly effect us, we are the problem! GET INVOLVED!
Because the average American in American society has precious little exposure to the outside world. This explains why SO many people in this rotten country respond to any kind of criticism of it by another American with "Oh yeah? Well if America is so terrible then why don't you go live in China?" as if there are only two countries in the world. Most Americans seem to act like they think that if a person travels outside of America they enter this realm where saying anything critical of the government is punished by death and they cut your hands off if you scratch yourself in public or something. <br />
In a word, it goes back to IGNORANCE.
