Why does everybody, and I do mean everybody, move their arms back and forth when they walk?

would we all fall over if we swung our arms 180° out of phase than what we actually do? i.e. instead of opposite arm and leg swinging in phase, same arm and leg swing in phase? sorry about the trigonometric functions.

I have heard that it's good that we move our arms back and forth while we walk because it helps prevent lower back pain, therefore it's a good thing that we do it naturally.

Because our feet don't bend backwards and we don't have tails or four legs. Besides balance it improves the efficiency of walking. Humans are so efficient at walking and running and getting rid of excess body heat we are the only animal on the planet that can literally run its prey into the ground. Some primitive tribes to this day will just keep chasing their prey until they fall down from heat exhaustion. We can literally run all day long and walk for weeks on end.
