Most are the action type with few words. It's easier for a man to grunt and do than it is to talk about grunting and talk about doing. Also there is still this inate quality in men that is driven by survival instinct. Loose lips sink ships, meaning when a man talks their instinct warns them not to divulge to much about themselves as it may be seen as a weakness. If you notice, and educated and secure man will converse openly, an arrogant alpha male will tell what he wants and not share his secrets and an beta male will withdraw afraid to speak his mind least he be eaten alive.

true. those are some good points. that still doesn't explain my bf. he will start a convo, I will respond, then he will say somthing totally random & unrelated.

Yup that sounds like a boy! :) So looking at everything else he does, does he do those things good enough for you? I'm a talker, my partner (who is female by the way) is not. We've learned to communicate differently.

They don't like to reveal their feelings too much cause it may appear as weakness.

    We have no trouble communicating.
What are you asking and why do you think you already have the answer?

Believe me, I said it with a smile on my face. Perhaps the issue is a common language as far as emotional issues are concerned. There, specifically, we do differ from women.
