Resolved Question

Why does just talking to someone make you feel better?

I've had a terrible day, felt low and angry for most of it. I've spoken to a couple of friends tonight and instantly it lifted my mood. Amazing how a chat can perk you up, thank god for friends.

when you voice the things that upset you, you aren't holding them inside anymore. that can be a nice relief.

People help each other regenerate energy in two ways - positive talking (so long as you believe it and it's genuinely positive - no mixed body language messages); and skin to skin touching. People seem to prefer one or the other, but both are great, I think.

Confession really helps, too. Not only do you get to talk to someone, he forgives you, and you walk out of there with a wiped-clean soul ready to go to Heaven if you get hit by a bus.

Talking something out to someone has the same effect as praying does for some people. Basically, it forces us to think about our feelings and to verbalize them in an orderly way. Subconsciously, we're making order out of the chaos that is what we're feeling. We are forced to think about what we're feeling and express it to whoever we're talking to. It putting our feelings out into the open, we actually think about our words, what they mean, and how they will characterize our feelings to the listener. This way our feelings make more sense to us as well and we can gain new insights into our feelings, thoughts and relationships. We can discover new meaning in actions and words.

Most of this stuff you wouldn't think about but it is going on.

It doesn't help me.
Unless someone actually has good advice, I don't feel better by talking.

Talking to someone makes me feel better because it gives me a chance to really express my feelings. I’m the type of person, I keep thing bottled up inside and once I release the dragon, I feel so at ease.

I never had anyone to talk to for a long time...maybe it's the relief knowing that someone understands. :)

Venting is a way of sorting things out. We get a new view and support from friends. It helps that friends make us laugh about what happened. It's a good thing.

When we talk to others about our problems and experiences, etc. it's a release. It's so much better out than in and I really love it when I can bounce some of my feelings and thoughts off of someone else and see that they have the same issues also. Sometimes they agree and sometimes not. Sometimes a person can turn you onto something you never thought of. You learn that way. It's good to talk. I needed to make a decision. I was at the flea market and overheard a girl talking about taking a job. She was supposed to shadow a nurse for 2 hours. She was there from 8am to 10pm and still wasn't sure if she wanted the job and they wanted to know by Monday. I smiled. I told her I have issues about making decisions too sometimes and I'm in deep thought of one right now. Some decisions are life changing and you need to be careful. It was good for me to hear that and good for her to get it off her chest. Works both ways.
