Giving him the benefit of the doubt - people don't like to drink alone. Its custom to share a drink with someone and be social.

Nope there's absolutely no rule that you have too, but people some people feel uncomfortable unless you drink with them I have met very few that felt that way. I don't drink so I certainly wouldn't push you to do something you don't want to do. When I tell people I don't drink most offer up a "defense" about why they do or think they should. It may sound insulting, but I laugh inwardly when they do because I've said them all myself and since you are "high maintenance" I would suggest going on a date elsewhere besides the local pub.

if i went on a date and she wouldnt drink at all, i would never go out with that girl again. cause if we got together i would be waiting for the day when she said "you should quit drinking" then i would have to kick her out of my house. its easier to get away from that before it starts.

You refused to participate in normal social behavior. You demanded "special" diet status rather than a healthy normal diet. You implied that you object to normal social drinking. You identified yourself as "high maintenance." You showed that your lifestyle and his are not compatible. That's a few reasons, there are probably more. And note: non-drinkers don't live as long.
