For me it seems that any time someone, even yourself, tells you not to do something it becomes a dare.

I tell myself I will try to do no harm.

Ha! Me too, sometimes to my detriment. Concerning what we tell ourselves...I think the intention to do no harm, no matter how imperfectly executed, still manages to change us. I just can't make the dang vow until I have a better understanding.

You're not rationalizing enough. Cause there to be zero harm, and you can play theoretical reductions in harm against your harmful actions.
