Because food that you do not have to pay for....cook....or clean up after...Always tastes better...hehehehe

And no one cooks as great as Mom.....It is the love that she puts into the pot that makes it taste great

Taste buds actually dull with age. It is why adults generally like foods that young ones generally do not like - for instance vegetables. Kids are very sensitive to the bitter falvors in many vegetables and do not like them for that reason. Adults are less so and can enjoy other flavors that are present instead.

I beg to differ, somewhat. While I do think our tastes grow and shift, I did have a blast from my past recently. I had a Snack Pack pudding. It's taste brought me right back to 7 yrs old and the fondness of it in my lunchbox. On the other hand, the chemical flavors and oils are not so tastey to my whole food palate. Grama's homemade pudding still rules.

Perhaps because in those days food was free of pesticides and other chemicals and our taste buds hadn´t gotten used to synthetic flavours.

We actually lose taste buds as we age. Hence the picky child eater grows up to love many more foods than when he was a child -- because the flavors aren't as intense.

Look into the Chinese Medicine diagnostic skill of Tongue Reading. That should offer some hints. More if you're willing to flesh them out.

For some of us, maybe alcohol dulls the taste buds. I mean it's one thing I can think of I have done as an adult, not a child. Or maybe we just get so preoccupied with all those aggravating details of being mature & responsible, we lose the ability to appreciate the simple pleasures in life.

It depends on who's cooking it. My mother used to throw down but as she got older she didn't. My oldest sister though, oh boy! She's got cooking down to a fine art and as good as her food tasted when I was growing up it tastes just as good now. She makes the best sweet potato pie in the world and makes most of her dishes from scratch in these days of nuke it and instant. You can't beat that!!

Hi
all childhood sensations are more powerful because you are experiencing and remembering first impressions - sharper, clearer more meaningful. As you grow older you experience life differently and because less experiences are remarkable then our experience of time is that it speeds up. Summers that went on for ever as we lived every moment as new are replaced by Seasons that flash by. Food just part of that

Food always tasted better when your mommy made it 'specially for you. Take for example something as simple as toast. When someone else makes it , it smells so warm and inviting. When I make it , well, it's toast for cryin out loud.

That is assuming that all kids got "good' or "tasty" food as a kid.

Not all of us did.

Children have significantly stronger 'senses' than adults do... taste, smell, eyesight, hearing, touch are all measurably better during childhood. Survival mechanism crossed with longer term exposure to the world's environment 'dulling' the senses I would guess.

It has been said that our tastes in food changes every 7 years so I would think that is why food doesn't always taste the same and of course, it could be the additives in the food..there are new ones all the time
