I agree, I think we should do like other countries. They would have a much better chance of picking it up like you say.

Because there are to many damn children and not enough adults willing to teach them.

My parents did that, i was getting pretty good at Norwegian, and my big brother was fluent, but we eventually refused to speak anything else, it eventually pissed off our grand-parents so much that they couldnt even understand their own grand-kids that my nan snapped and shouted at us to speak English. We never spoke Norwegian again, and both forgot how to speak it.

My teacher started to teach us spanish in first grade. It was so easy. Our country is doing a disservice to its children not to add language. Maybe they are threatened because most politicians only speak one language themselves?

Perspective. Many people already do this. I'm not 100% sure who you mean when you say why don't WE teach... If you mean why doesn't the state, the government, our public schools, I would say why must our government provide everything for us. This is America. Land of the free. We get to choose what we want to do, where to go, etc... Many many people think it is important for their children to learn other languages so they make it happen. We can't simply sit back and wait for our government to do everything. That is not what this country is about.

Yeah this question was asked by a European and we are a lot more civilized here and have a more inherent community about us. You may belong to the tea party and eat this idea that all the state should pay for are armies and police to defend you and you shouldn't pay any tax to achieve it but here in Europe we learnt long ago that to lift our whole nation we must each pay a little more for the benefit of more. And before you start pointing out the faults in Europe just remember our countries are a lot older than yours.

You make many good points. I'm not a tea party member. All countries have faults. Age of country, after hundreds of years anyway, doesn't mean anything in this day and age. Each country gets to choose what they feel is important and what they should spend their money on. Well, at least those in charge do. Yes, Europe has faults, so does the U.S. and every other country too.

We live in a small world and the dominant language on the planet will not be English for ever. It could become Spanish or Chinese then where will you be?
