Why has sponge bob square pants got such a stupid name, when people can see that's what he is. Why not just call him bob

You said it was silly, and it's ment to be. To entertain children. They go apeshit over that sponge. I think the name is catchy.

So, it should have just been Bugs (Bunny), Daffy (Duck), Wile E. (Coyote), etc.? Methinks you have forgotten all of these characters are primarily for young children and reminding them of the 'type' of animal the characters represent isn't a bad idea at all when you think about it for a moment. Just my two cents of course

its a childrens cartoon, why do you care? and besides some people like being called thier full name, for example my boyfriend prefers to be called adam rather than ad. and some people like their entire name rather than just thier first, like my friend sarah goldsmith. his creator must like his full name. and would you critasice a real person if that was thier name, yeah it would be funny to be called spongbob square pants, but maybe a real person with that name would like to make a joke out of it and insist on being called his full name all the time

Because "Bob" doesn't work in the theme song. Duh.
