they are actually dropping in popularity. I like it personally, I find it more meaningful. I think the pop just fuels our sex raged culture and results in too many teenage pregnancies. It is not all that but it's all just electronically enhanced where did the guitar, drums and bass go? that is talent. It is now just a one man show with digitally enhanced sounds and beats. Music is practically dead in my opinion

Stop looking at the popular bands. Underground and indie bands are always very impressive, and they don't have the unnecessary ego that mainstream bands do.
Even if the sound isn't the greatest, a lot of bands have a very intense presence on stage. (These types of bands are only good on stage, because I like their passion more than the sound. So their albums and such aren't the greatest.)
really? i think they're the best albums. much better than the "plastic music" that is most mainstream

Some of them aren't so bad, I used to be very against all of them but more recently I've found a small group of them that are very talented and pleasant to hear. That is of course assuming you like very loud music.
