Why their view matters more ? I think the weakest link is on the legislators, often men, given the power to make laws of the society.
Why alienate all law abiding citizens who just happen to be gay ?

    I think another problem, besides legislators, is some many people feel that what they believe to be moral IS the really moral choice and they feel they have the right and sometimes they feel they have the obligation to force that on the rest of us. Kind of scary actually
