Damn good question. To me anyway, it is more like an academic competition, and nobody considers them to be a sport. But then, ESPN always includes a segment on the Spelling competition.
Sport? Game yes! Sport? I don't think so.
Basically it is war waged on a theoretical level, for sport (defined as 'amusement or play'). ;)
Was originally developed in place of fighting with soldiers on the battlefield
at least as much as driving a car around on oval track a few hundred times and called that a sport -shrugs-
Because just like paint brushes, The pieces only follow the users skills imagination and boundaries.
Because it takes skills and it is done competitively.
That doesn't make it a sport ; it's a game.
No, apparently it's considered a sport. It just doesn't coincide with the idea of sports you have devoloped for yourself.
