The latter. Expecting someone else to make you happy is a fool's game. -- People fear being alone because they don't want to confront their inner demons.

Yes, and we have to seek knowledge about it.
We are created out of LOVE. Except God, Who is Love Himself, all beings need LOVE to exist and to maintain the existence of the species. This spiritual thirst eternally causes the lover to accept all sacrifice to come to his beloved, even to pay a hundred lives to reach this most cherished purpose. No physicians can cure this common but most painful disease.
This feeling of loneliness seems unbearable, that is why the search is tireless and the reunion is the most blisful state.

What makes you think EVERYONE is scared of being alone? I know people who CHOOSE to live a solitary life and not have to deal with the mess other people drag around.

I am happy. I just would not mind being with someone to share the happiness with. :)

I'm the lonely one who can never truly make myself happy. I have some issues with codependency which I am attempting to address.

We are by nature, social beings so it is but natural for us to prefer to have some company, more often than not. Admit it or not, there are activities that are more fun if done and shared with another person. However, I know too that each of us have some moments when we would like to be alone and some even cope well in that situation. I guess that's what differentiates the introverts from the extroverts.

Even if you don't want to be alone because you count on others to make you happy, it's all good.. there is someone for everyone out there. I think though, that most people prefer someone as a partner that is a little independent. Which means you might need to be okay with being alone first. I hate being alone, but I love being able to do the things that I like and not having to discuss or bend to others wishes. I do it though, because I love being in love and being married. I suppose I'm one of the weird ones. ;) However, we are all looking to be important to someone. We are looking for someone to dictate our lives to, someone to bear witness to our lives, as I have heard before. Without that, we feel invisible, like we don't matter. We actually do, but most of us don't believe it unless someone else tells us. :p

Well for a fact I was scared of being alone, I even turned myself into someone who easily gets into occassions with low self esteem people .. because I was afraid of being alone in life.
But then I found out , that I always have God.Even though I may not be able to see him, My faith is stronger than ever..

We are pack animals. It's in our nature. People who prefer to be alone either have a greater sense of self (example: Buddhist monks) or are socially awkward self deluded types who are trying to defend their circumstances (example: no social circle to speak of.)

I admit being alone has it's advantages. But it's nice to have it peppered with the occasional human interaction.

As for me, I am in self exile while I get my life back on track. I am single by choice. But not for much longer because it is a little wearing at times.

Our hectic and increasingly technological society which promises ultra connection to everyone, seems to be driving us further from humanity and its contacts... we spend so much time in a noisy, frantic world that when we are forced to stop and listen to the quiet in our own heads we can't take it and begin to search outside ourselves for that which makes us..... The piece we miss is that we ARE what we have been searching for! Wanting to share ourselves and the love we have inside with someone on a regular basis is part of a human need.......not always out of fear..... out of the condition of sharing such great abundance (love)....when our love is given back in some form it feels like aloneness, and it can be hard to pick up and move forward into feeling happy with ourselves......
