Higher education doesn't mean that a person needs a degree or even college. There are many skills that a person can obtain through training and make a good living with.
The main problem today is that we are simply giving a diploma to anyone who is registered in school for twelve or more years. They don't have to learn anything, they often don't have to even show up for class. We pay welfare mothers to have kids and then don't require them to educate those kids.
Its not an issue of funding... its an issue of low expectations. We accept that we are graduating kids who can't read. Several years ago, a girl who was valedictorian of her high school class could not pass the very easy Louisiana High School exit exam.... she had to take the exam multiple times before she was given a passing grade.
There is nothing wrong with having to struggle to obtain education... I did, and I'm better off for the experience.
Blame who you want, but the mothers that I am talking about have sole custody of the kids, collect welfare and SSI for the kids..... they need to make the kids go to school. They simply don't.
Graduating with honors from high school means very little today. The standards are set low.
College grads with meaningful degrees are doing well today. Its the people who major in useless or in low demand fields that are finding few jobs or low paying jobs.
Well. My only friend who didn't go to uni was mortgage free at 23. But she was the smartest. Married up.
Our systems different. We don't have to pay our uni loans till after we start making 45 or 50 grand.
