While we tend to think that Bambi is gleefully roaming the woods, but this is not the case. There are two kinds of animals in this world: prey animals, and predatory animals. The cycle of life offers checks and balances in order that one species does not overpopulate. If such an occurrence does happen, widespread environmental damage, mass starvation along with disease, is the result.

So, being the big-brained animals that we are, we figured out that we could assist nature by killing two birds, so to speak, with one stone. This way, we not only manage wildlife populations, but put food on our plates. We didn't invent the way of nature, we just learned to utilize it to best effect.

I think George Carlin had the best answer for this:

"Look at what we kill. Mosquitos and flies, because they're pests! Lions and tigers, because it's fun! Chickens and pigs, because we're hungry. Pheasants and quail, because it's fun, and we're hungry. And people! We kill people, because they're pests... and it's fun!"

I don't understand the core of your question but I think you talking about hunting in the sense of killing game with a weapon of your choice. The answer are two folds, first is control of the wildlife to maintain healthy herds and groups, and secondly because regardless of what you think we still belong in the animal world and we are program to hunt and gather.

well hunting still serves a purpose. legal hunting sets quotas and allows for the maintaining of a population of animals. That way the deer population doesn't explode and we have 3,000 deer in a place only big enough fo 1,000. It serves a necessary purpose. I don't hunt myself. I wish i did but, don't have the time.

Because it gives good reason to keep guns legal, as I think they should be. Too many things are illegal these days thanks to bad actions from bad people and as usual the good people of this world must pay the price for them.

Hunting what? All hunting? I think you should specify. Some hunting of some species by some methods is not legal. Obviously some species should be hunted, since humans have annihilated the natural predators in a lot of areas.

Where I'm from there's a serious overpopulation problem with deer. A lot of them run into the road and get it, but also a lot starve.

That and there are a lot of rednecks.

Because people get pissed when deer overpopulate and start jumping in front of their cars.

Because as much as some people want to deny it, we are part of the natural world.

I am not exactly for or against hunting, myself. That said, hunting is still legal because the animals are still taking over the world and need to be outnumbered a bit!

To put meat on the table to feel we are assisting nature with population control and to rid ourselves of some of this testosterone build up.

You're not serious? I drive the hiway's almost daily and I can't remember the last time I didn't see a dead animal on the road. Why is driving cars on hiway's stil legal? Do you drive a car? There are more deer, birds, cats, rodents, rabbits, elk ... killed by cars than by bullets or arrows.
