The "unlucky" aspect of a Friday 13th is a recent trend in the past century or so. But some trace it back to October 13, 1307, when most of the Knights Templars were killed as a result of dealings between the King of France and the Pope who felt the knights had become too wealthy and too powerful.

It originates from the masons who where connected to the Knight Templar.
On Friday, 13 October 1307, hundreds of the Knights Templar were arrested tried and executed for heresy and engaging in occultism.
