Why is it frowned upon to be an effeminate gay, in gay culture?

I am a feminine gay and all the time I hear your too gay from gay people... I find it funny that straight people accept me more than my own people.

Some gay guys feel that queens hurt the gay rights movement/make them look bad, whatever that is supposed to mean. Personally, I like being around queens. It would be kind of boring if the gay community was nothing but a bunch of brawn!

Draq queens are the most visible aspect of gay culture, stands to reason that gays wouldn't like being stereotyped. Also they're mainly attention ******, that's why I don't care for them, catty, bitchy, and cause a ton of drama.

They are entertainers so of course they stand out. I also recall when I went to a gay club I saw slightly butch guys dancing out shining the drag queens performance that being said if gay men want to change the stereotype they could make an attempt to instead of bashing the effeminate gay men... Also as a side note calling someone catty/bitchy would cause drama especially if you just assumed they were that way because the performed as drag queens

I don't judge people by their sexual orientation. I judge individuals on their integrity. I don't see anything else. :) Let's just say that I am in the minority sadly.

Because it's sexist to a degree, and also because it's assumed by many if you're gay you're a drag queen. Also I've found through personal experience that the effeminate ones tend to be the biggest *******, plus they are often snooty and are petty. Maybe I'm just running into the wrong ones but that's what happens to me.

Well my friends and I are generally nice people and in fact are irritated when we observe snooty or petty behavior... and I'd have to say YES you're running into the wrong ones

Maybe they just don't like me cuz I'm trans. I find a lot of gay and lesbian people aren't very accepting.

It just calls up the time -worn stereotypes and self conscious apprehensiveness. Better safe than sorry.

(I'm straight though. Don't tell anyone I answered this question!)

I think because it's generally frowned upon to be effeminate, period.
    Basically, it's a bleed-over of sexism...
I mean...20 years ago the anti-women thing among the gay male bar culture was something that really irked me-guys sneering at me because I was (technically) female and for no other reason...and I was marching around protesting for those guy's rights too.
And transgendered folk, which I now consider myself to be? Gawd, they want to quarantine us!

Yeah I just don't get why its a huge deal. We are who we are and I feel they should accept us as we do them. I myself am not really even attracted to the "manly" gays I like my men with a lil eye liner lol

I'm fine with people not really forcing themselves to like a type of person that they just don't. It's just I find purposely commenting in a rude way for no reason is disrespectful... and its too bad you don't like us because they are my friends and they're really nice people :)

I have a few gay friends, i was referring to over the top personalities in general, ye know like people who think "Oh i'm a hippie" or "God loves us" or "Hay guiess hows my eye liner". No offence intended if you wear eye liner :p

So what, should there be another category so that the gay men can be "men" and us "silly boy girls" can finally be left alone.
