I always figured these kind of things were up to luck. Some people never find the right person, and they are perfectly decent individuals. Be picky, but not overly picky. Look for someone who knows their manners, but can accept good-natured humor. If you run into "Mr. Right", good for you, but don't be too optimistic. As the popular opinion goes, "most men are nutjobs and/or perverts". In my personal opinion, most men are an unsavory combination of arrogance, selfishness, racism/sexism, predisposition to violence, sickening perversion, carelessness, and wild lack of impulse control. Each has varying levels. Lucky folks find the guys with very low amounts of those traits. I see myself as fairly violent, with slightly elevated selfishness.

Anything worth having takes time and patience. Sometimes you have to go through all the nut cases and pervs before something better emerges. Up your standards, don't assume anything about anyone, get to know someone first before becoming emotionally invested.
