Research suggests that women are more forgiving than men: see the ScienceDaily article "Men Have A Harder Time Forgiving Than Women Do". The difference goes away, however, if men become more empathetic towards the person who offended them.
The article claims that the difference is mostly based on environment: "Women, having been taught from an early age to be more empathetic, lean toward relationship building and do not emphasize the vengeful side of justice to the degree that men do." (quoted from the article)

I don't know if women are more forgiving then men. I think each person is different in their ability to forgive others.. some are easy to let it happen and some hold on for a bit... I know some men who are very easy going and never hold a grudge or harbor ill feelings..... they are quick to let go and move on. I think men tend to be easier going, they don't get wrapped up in drama, and therefore don't usually get as upset over certain things as easily as some women do. I also know women who have a hard time forgiving, especially when it comes to forgiving other women. I really think it's an individual thing... I personally don't think it's a gender thing...

Women have the wonderful gift of compassion and they are allowed to use it, men on the other hand are thought cowardly if they show compassion. Or so they think, real compassion isn't cowardly, it's kingly. Pity we fail to see our potential.

I don't think this is true. Haven't you ever heard the saying, "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned?"

I haven't found this to be true.

A few years back I worked in a mill with mostly guys. They would get so angry and yell, then next day it was like nothing happened. They get pissed and they just get it out and go on.

It has been my experience that a lot of women don't let go of things that easily. (myself included, I must confess)

it is because we are more emotional than men..they tend to use their brains rather than their hearts....they dont easily forget....

It may just be that the fact of the matter is guys a stupid, we are. So you have to be more forgiving. And for the most part every guy know, if you love something you will put it in a place that it can hurt you. And sometimes you just get to scared to be hurt agene. I know it's a double stander. But when I was a small boy my dad told me to stay in the car, when on a rainy night he stopped to help a woman on the side of the road. When I asked him why he stopped he said "Son, don't think a girl can't change a tire. But never be the man that will let one.."

I don't think it's gender that determines a person's ability to forgive. Please excuse me if I'm wrong however.

I think sometimes we women or atleast me... say we forgive but I never forget in which I still really am hurt I just keep it under wraps. Sometimes I have forgiven out of plain neediness.. ex like a boyfriend or husband. Men in my opinion can stand their ground better. I just cant stay mad.

It's not a function of gender but of character. Although in my case I'm generally more forgiving of the people around me than they are of me.

Well personally, I choose to forgive the person of their action because 'they know not what they have done.' I do however still remember i choose not to permit myself to hold a grudge-i do choose to fight my pillow over it for a bit if it's serious....

This might be true however with women entering the work force and taking positions normally dominated by the male gender this will change within the next 10 to 15 years. Check it out.
