How can people pay to join ep when others cannot afford to do so. What is it saying to them? Surely that is the greater moral conflict. Instead you should pay for someone else to have membership who needs it more. Then you could feel you had the moral high ground. I would not have raised this except for your question so thanks. It has troubled me.
ep is a democratic forum. Those who can pay should and those who cannot should not feel guilty as ep needs everyone.

Maybe cuz EP is FREE; there's just an option to upgrade your account to an EP supporter. No obligation to do that though.

its advertisied as a free site. If they really wanted you to pay they would charge before letting people in.

Maybe because we love the support we both get and give, and yet b/c of layoffs and paycuts...we can't afford little luxuries like paying for sites!

EP is free. You can upgrade the account, but it's not obligatory. In order for it to be theft, EP would have to impose a charge upon everyone who signs up, and you would have to find a way around that. I actually resent the constant upgrade pop ups. If I want to upgrade, I know how to click the link.

I have thought about that and will get my membership because I don't want to take advantage of the system. Thank you for mentioning this. =)

Geez, why so judgmental, friend? In case you hadn't heard, there is a recession going on and there are a lot of people out of work who can barely afford to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. I know, I've been out of work for a year. We can't afford to eat out or go to a movie or go grab a drink and socialize with people, so we go on a site like this where we can talk to friendly people, share stories, and maybe get a little understanding and compassion. Too bad you don't have any. P.S. It IS a free site.

It amazes me people pay for TV...Even the phone and internet should be way cheaper,..Same with all my other bills that are too much!!

It's a free site with the option to pay, which gets you a few perks. This would be interesting though, how about if everyone who is not a paying member stops answering your questions and you never answer the question of anyone who is not a paying member? Might not get nearly the interaction that you do now, but since it's such an issue to you, I think you should stand firm and don't associate with us non-paying bottom feeders.

I believe I am not just doing it for pleasure, but might be helping others as well.
