Because it isn't one thing. It's the sum of tons of things. Shared interests,shared passions, physical attractions, and trust (and then more trust). It takes empathy of caring what the partner feels, and then the motivation to act on it.
I think that most people find love "too good to be true". They have hoped for it, needed it, and then been unable to receive it for some reason or other...either because they didn't know how, or what they thought might be love wasn't love at all. <br />
That's one reason it's so complicated. You can't see into another person's heart. You can't know for certain if they are going to take advantage of that need you can have to be loved in return. If you have never had real love in your life, it can be very very hard to recognize it when it comes your way, and to make things worse, people are such individuals that they way someone shows his love for you might not be something you see as love at all.
Not everyone defines LOVE the same way; some people have been hurt so much that they are afraid to love.
Perhaps because it means so many different things to so many different people.
