Why is patriotism so focused on the acceptance of intolerant attitudes?

Honestly, the basis of patriotism seems to be a general lack of acceptance of everybody else, not the "I'm so happy to belong to this wonderful place!". It seems to have fallen on hating any group that has opposing views.

And no, I'm not patriotic.

Because that is what the govt does best,it conquers, corrupts and divides in order to breed hate and suspicion of those who are not on your side or who look different . This gives people the illusion of having enemies and they want the govt to do what they need to keep these people from upsetting your way of life. And so they get support for heavy policing and military action against the perceived enemies of "democracy and peace" etc etc blah blah blah.
