..Why is Religion so important to some people?

objectively it is important. The concept of God existed way before the label God. What God is is objective and some people want to understand the fundamentals of the universe and the ultimate fundamentals. That is what God is- that is how the term God was ultimately defined. For many philosophers the logic we all use is what led them to believe in God. And once you believe in God, you explain it to others, they believe too and an organization starts and is formed and grows around the idea to explain it's importance. Even Christianity was formed around human perception. People SAW Jesus rise from the dead. If their perception is accurate don't you think it is critical as a society and race that we understand it or at least believe it? I do.

Some people just want to be right, some people want to be better than everyone else, but there are some who really love God and the Holy Sprit within them makes God the most important thing there is. You may not have met any of these last types.

Because it gives them hope and meaning. And a sense of security and peace in a turbulent world.

Dunno. They need some sort of an outlet. Atleast they aren't 'Terrorists'!

lol love your answer neveres. because the have so little self worth that they need to rely on other "beings" to add some worth to their life. and they feel the need to judge others who are happy the way they are.

What makes us unique as humans is our ability to not merely behave/think of the natural and immediate world but to consider where we have come from and where we are going. It is not simply a form of entertainment, wishful thinking, tradition, etc. but we each stake our lives and possible eternity in how we choose to subsequently believe/behave in life. It is fundamental to who we are and how we exist.

I have to say I think that people have faith in their life because they have a love of God/buddha/ whatever it may be. They have studied their religion and they want to have a relationship with their God. He brings them peace and happiness.
To those who said, that people only have faith cuz they have so little self worth, I have to disagree. I think most people who have a faith life, have a lot of self worth and they feel strong and content and at peace with who they are.
If those who have a faith life feel empowered by it, why put them down for it? Why judge them?
I know, some who claim to have faith and religion in their lives come on here and preach and judge and condemn others for not having one and I fully Disagree with that as well!!
I think those who do come on here to be the preacher man/woman, give those who really try to be just good, caring people of faith, a bad name.

Because people that think religion is so important actually still thinks God cares.

Because Religion is the free system of education for all mankind to attain Beauty, Morality and Truth. Religion encourages and provides intellectual and spiritual guidance to all believers for thinking and serving these high ideals. In the past, this learning was narrow, and also distorted, due to accessing through the professional clergy. Now this can be done easily and directly through the modern means of publication and communication.
Otherwise, this education is expensively reserved for a very small number of people, and due to lack of divine guidance, these people may gain some high learning, but no true knowledge.
In reality, great philosophers, theist or atheist, are direct and indirect learners of Religion. Hence, their influence is much smaller than the religious founders - the Bearers of True Knowledge from God.

Chronic lack of self-faith so they seek props to bolster this inadequacy. If it happens to be a fairly story, so what, just as long as they are not alone because buddy, it's cold outside!

Because this is what I believe since childhood, this is where my parents started to teach me of good values.
