Why is strangling / choking such a popular attack method amongst nerds?

Even if the geek is 190 lbs of buff he still strangles the victim rather than punch them out I've noticed this seems to be a very popular attack method from nerds. Why? Also they don't use their hands but they use their arms or legs to attack the neck.

    Since when? I thought "nerds" would be more thinkers than fighters.

    no i mean when nerds DO fight they 90% of the time choke their opponeent
