Technically the Earth is not round, but is a 3D oval, or more technically, an oblate spheroid. The radius along the equator is 6,378.1 km. The radius going around the poles (from the North Pole to the South Pole then back to the North Pole) is 6,356.8 km. This is due to the rotation of the Earth. When viewed from space, however this is close enough to a sphere that most people just consider the Earth round.
