Evil, untruth, meanness, isn't taught in school but it isn't mentioned. People today aren't taught to be good. There are those college professors who teach that greed is good, that to succeed is the only thing in life.
Money isn't bad - the love of money is.
I used to work for a major corporation. I saw lies, cheating, shoddy workmanship covered up. when I went to correct the problem I was fired. That was when I was in my fifties. Most of my co workers were in the same age range as me. I don't know if it is justice or what but my formeer boss died last year (61 years old) - a co worker who covered up shoddy workmanship is an invalid. I received a letter asking if I wanted to come back. I replied that if I were allowed to root out all the dishonesty I would. I never received a reply.

Because villains make more interesting characters than saints.

The world 'is so evil and greed driven' because most of us have been brought up (perhaps unconsciously) to approach life with the starting-point of FEAR OF NOT SURVIVING. This then means that many develop an "every man for himself, and the devil take the hindmost" outlook on life - which generates all the lies, deceptions and pushing and shoving that people do to each other. And as some here have already noted, we are generally slaves to the workaday requirements of a "civilised" life.

There are societies where the need to survive is not so pressing, and consequently people are nicer to each other and take care of each other... but by and large, the world is a pretty mad place!

To counter this, one needs to go deeper in to the reasons why we are here; and to do that, one must explore what one's REAL nature as a being of the Universe is. I'm convinced that we don't HAVE to be so driven by survival fears and motives, if we understand Who We Are.

because there are so many good, kind, and decent people and things out there that the world is only trying to balance itself out. unfortunately, in the news, we hear more about the bad than the good so it seems like the world is in much worse a state than it actually is.

I believe evil is caused by ignorance, fear and alienation.

Greed simply results from the habit of having to fight for limited resources. People just don't realize when they have enough.

Money & Emotions. Simply put, money has power to invoke evil and greed quickly giving an outcome of hurt and possible death. Emotions have power, evil abilities, and greed. Emotions is an action that drives everyone to do something when otherwise they wouldn't do normally. Therefore showing the evil and greed.

greed (which in my opinion is the root of all evil) is driven by FEAR! Fear of not conforming. To not conform is to not fit in. Not fitting in, makes you a big fat loser!! Or so is what the fear has taught us. So what do you do to fit in? You sell your soul to work that 9 to 5. You make the money to buy you that great wardrobe with the matching shoes, the namebrand products and that fancy car. You buy these things to look just like everyone else. Over time, this conformity is all you know and spending money is all you need.

Survival of the fittest. Success being something most strive for yet if not tempered with compassion I feel is usually a sign of a insecure individual.

Add what it costs to live each month. Things break and must be replaced. Families get larger, with some members not up to par needing extra help or members needing education. You need a little fun as well, but fun shouldn't be cause for evil. It's the necessities that cause evil and greed, food on the table and safety. The idea is to find legal sources.

Apparantly, good and generousity called "shotgun".

The residents of said world are drones. Nothing more than slaves to a master. Which, in turn, facilitates evil and greed.

We were all born with a life threatening disease called SIN! Some people practice it more than others. I feel so bad that this world is so full of people's bad decisions. I'm so grateful that God is God, and loves us anyway!
