Simple. People are either born hateful or had to experience hate to dish out hate to others, some have been hurt in life to the point where...well...they want others to share their pain even if it kills them.
In the last 150 years we've given women alone the right to own property, to vote, to sue for child support, to get an abortion, and countless other things. We've also outlawed slavery, segregation, job discrimination, and empowered people to marry outside their race. Those are just some of the bigger things we've done to combat institutionalized bigotry and hate, but there's still a long way to go and just passing laws doesn't get rid of all the hate overnight. For example, some 32 countries have now outlawed hitting or striking a child and child abuse is definitely related to how people pass hate down from generation to the next.

Why so much hate in the world? Because we enabled it and have yet to stop enabling it. The Kung! of South Africa had no words for greed or guilt and perhaps one homicide, rape, or serious theft every 400 years. So it is definitely possible to do if differently.

All forms of power feeds a detachment towards others. It is evident that humans cannot handle power as we see either in social, business or government environments. Everywhere there is a human being an ego of supremacy is present. Religious settings are notorious for this as well as the corruption in government leaders. The absence of compassion combined with the need of dominance in whatever setting humans congregate result in humans regressing to their prehistoric animal instincts. Humans throughout its existence have mastered to use their intellect to inflict cruelty upon others. The difference between humans and animals is we detach ourselves to rationalize our cruelty to control or kill others with weapons, chemicals, money or manipulative philosophies. We can't seem to evolve as a species to care about each other as one human race in a beautiful planet. Even on a one to one situation we are unable to overcome our outburst....it's as simple as waiting in line or driving to awaken our intolerance and hatred.
