I think it seems more important to women because the flower companies, the candy companies, society in general, the media, have made Valentine's day out to be this one day when men are supposed to be movie hero-like romantic and all of this has been shoved down our throats and most of us have believed it for way too long.

i also agree. its not important to me I think that men should express their love everyday not just one day out of the year. This doesnt mean monetary gifts just sweet, kind, small little gestures. With the occasional reasonable gift.

I think it's more important to us because for many of us, it's too often the only time of the year the couple's love is celebrated.

Not important to my woman, however she did not complain one bit at what she received today. Honestly, I could have done absolutely nothing and she would have been fine with that, but God forbid I do nothing on 8 March, then all hell will break loose.

Only if we're in a relationship. Then, you've got Xmas, Valentine's, and her birthday....and then, it's better to get a sweet card with well-planned words and reflects her personality, than an after-thought...sorry, the awful truth is that we want to feel special.

I don't think that's always true -- a man I know sent flowers to his sweetheart and is taking her out tonight and she is doing nothing for him in return and he is a bit low about that because he loves all the Valentine sentiments.

Who says it is? Valentine's Day is controversial. It is hated by those who have sworn off love, and especially by those who have been damaged by it. For those of us in love, some see it as commercial, and avoid it. Others of us sidestep the commercialism and embrace the celebration of love. Some in love argue that the day is pointless, that they celebrate their love every day, while others of us love that there is a day devoted especially to recognizing the love that we celebrate each day. Is it more important to women? I think that varies from one relationship to another. With so many different attitudes out there about the day, I'm sure there are relationships in which the woman values the day more than the man. For me personally, I have yet to be in a relationship where the woman values the day more than I do.

i'm gonna start with the point, then get to the history & details of it.

its a misconception that this day is more important to women. originally st. valentine of (location) was a list martyrs in the roman catholic church's calendar of saints. they later changed to celebrate a single day of feasting on february 14, 1969. over time, greeting cards as well as big business got a hold of it & used it for marketing purposes. preying on people's emotions for romance & love, valentines day as we now know it is a commercial holiday. kids line up in stores begging parents to get them the coolest valentines day cards or toys for their classmates. men & women buy candy, flowers, cards or fancy restaurant reservations to celebrate their love for each other. valentines day is not a priority to people who dislike capitalism or are single. kids even realize this is just a day to see who's won the popularity contest.

so no, this day isn't more important to women as i've known men who are serious on getting their love on v-day or there's hell to pay if they are forgotten. this day is a day of principle for people who feel like there should be an excuse to celebrate. i personally feel i don't need a holiday or fancy marketing to enjoy any day...but i do love those cheesy singing bears.

Because women are sentimental, we like to be treated special and we would like confirmation that we indeed are.

because to woman, happiness is precious. They really need someone cares of them. that is my thinking as I am a female. Maybe you can say they are romantic. I don't deny that. There is no reason to be accepted if a man forget this important day.
