Why is violence from women toward men in TV commercials acceptable and considered funny?
I saw a Nokia commercial in which a woman actually head butted a man. There is another spot for fake eyelashes in which the woman just punches the man in the face. I have seen a car commercial with a female robot beating up a man and throwing him into a wall. Now I understand that many Americans will see this as funny though I have never been entertained by this kind of low brow humor. But it occurred to me that if the genders were switched in any of this spots, there would certainly be a ferocious uproar. It wouldn't be openly considered funny by anyone. The fact is that any violence between a man and a woman - regardless of who is inflicting it - is still violence. What does it do to our sensitivity to watch women beat men while we laugh? I, like many men, do not accept any violence from any female and would knock her azz smooth out if she put her hands on me first. These images repeated constantly in the media do make women feel it is different - and ok - to strike a man.
