Ummm.. because their God doesn't believe in periodical software updates?
Seriously though, Islam doesn't allow for flexibility.. reevaluation of what it teaches depending on the times.
In comparison, look at Catholicism. For decades Roman Catholic Church was saying condoms were disallowed and using them was a sin. After years of pressure now the current Pope says condoms may be acceptable in some circumstances such as for the prevention of AIDS.
Guess what? The word of God has just been updated!
How is it primitive? Compared to what?
Wow... is it more primitive than the Jewish or Christian religions that are also ba<x>sed on millenia-old books?
Please define primitive. Immature (as in not complete)? Primitive in that it is not very sophisticated? Primitive in that people who believe in it tend to be in society's that you feel are less economically developed?
What do you mean? Then we can answer.
Because the very core of Islam is believing that Muhammad was a fabulous guy who was very pleasing to the deity. Muhammad was a man who married at least one prepubescent girl, who raided caravans if memory serves me correctly, who married an older woman for money before the little girl, who basically rape-married some of his wives, who dispatched assassins against his enemies, who massacred Jewish prisoners of war, who gave many bloodcurdling exhortations to slaughter infidels, who practiced the spread of his faith by the sword, who "prophesied" to other men to divorce their wives so he could have them, and on & on... There could hardly be more different lives than the lives of Jesus and Muhammad.
Also, Muslims have a doctrine that apart from what the Quran and the Sunni/Hadith teach, there is another infallible guide : the consensus of the Umma, the collectivity of Muslims. What Muslims in general believe must be right. Therefore, even though the seclusion of women is not plain as day required in the Quran, the consensus of the Umma have believed that women should be secluded. Therefore under orthodox Muslim doctrine, women should be secluded. By contrast, Christianity imputes no inherent or automatic authority to what most Christians believed for x amount of time. Christians look to the Bible. Past ideas held by Christians are interesting but not binding.
Puck, after 14 centuries, Islam can't use the growing pains excuse.
Chakatblackstar, Muslims have always done plenty of tossing their enemies' heads around. I do recall Muhammad being involved in beheadings.
Of most of the currently practiced religions it is the youngest, newest.
uhhh...primitive? what do you mean by that? I agree with thwya, you need to tell us what you mean. If you mean immature or less sophisticated, I don't see it as any more "primitive" than other religions...but what do i know? i'm not an islamophobe.
Well, it is a young religion compared to most other major religions.
All religions are equally primitive, all meant to control.
Erm... I don't think criticising without understanding is a good thing, so maybe only those people should speak about it, who actually know what they're talking about, so I'm with shannonymous on this one.
because it involves worshipping invisible creatures like all other religions. The world has improved and with that, we ought to leave the crutch of religion behind. we don't need imaginary friends to hold our hands anymore
it's a pretty new religion maybe it's going through a primitive stage just like Christianity did with the Catholics. Maybe it will evolve.
