hhhmmmm....my 4 cats have a hang-up over gender. none of them can figure out which way they want to go. my 2 girl kitties hump the boy cats, and the boy cats are on the bottom. then they're mad and act confused. my husband had 2 horses that did the same thing. LOL

If you consider the animal kingdom in all its variety, you will soon see that many species have tightly defined gender roles, not just homo sapiens!<br />
One perspective is that to impose order on a huge and scary world, people try to fit things into pre-conceived patterns. If they do that, things (or people) who don't fit their paradigm are going to cause them stress. If they have power (be it political, religious,or a broken bottle and a skinful of booze) then that spells trouble. For a long time, the pattern for gender has,for most of us in the Western world, been dictated by Christian dogma. Only recently (in the grand scheme of things) has this been challenged. Most of us,little by ever-so-little,are getting more comfortable with diversity. But being the complex creatures we are,in all likelihood we will always have hang-ups about something.

What do you mean? That the lionesses never complain that they do all the hunting and then the males get to eat first? That male seahorses actually carry the young and birth them? Or that female elephants don't seem to care that they don't have tusks?
