Sounds like you are looking at the constellation Orion, one that's easy to see in the northern hemisphere winter night sky. I believe JeanaMai has the right reason you never noticed - you don't pay attention to the sky. The blue star is Rigel and the red one is Betelgeuse. One of the white stars is Bellatrix, or beautiful warrior or as I like to think, the FemDom star.
