Why should I care if my neighbor is gay?

It's a question you never seem to hear. Why should I give a shit? How exactly does somebody else's personal life threaten me? Somebody who thinks homosexuality is wrong educate me.

And don't give me any horseshit about deterioration of the family or something. If your family is that weak you've got bigger problems.

Update: My neighbors, to the best of my knowledge, are not gay. I'm simply using it as an example.

OK here's the point of this question, which a few people didn't seem to get: Until I hear a reason how your behavior actually *effects me* in some way I don't give a rat's ass what you do. I've never heard a reason worth a shit why somebody else's homosexuality harms me in any way (as long as that person is honest, of course). I suppose I'm open to the possibility of such an argument, but I ain't holding my breath.

JoeDeGhetto...you're deplorable....for a Christian.

Nobody should care about anyone's sexual orientation...it's as harmless as their hair colour.

I find that, on average, gay people love attention to the point of some of them being remarkably huge a$$holes. There's definitely part of the gay crowd that likes to do a ton of drugs and talk a lot of sh*t then run behind a homophobia accusation when someone confronts them. Your neighbor's being gay is probably irrelevant, depends on them as individuals. Nonetheless, if you put your head in the sand anytime something comes up with them because you are so bound and determined to feel like you are "tolerant", you're just being stupid.

I used to live next to a gay couple. They had 5 boston terriers that they just let run free. None of them had collars, but they all had individually colored scarves that they wore. Anyway, they used to get out all the time and come over to my garden and eat my fruit. that is the only time it bothered me living next to them. In every other way, they were the perfect neighbors. I miss them sometimes.

You shouldn't. I'm reminded of a famous Dear Abby column, I hope you don't mind me adding it to my answer.

Dear Abby:
About four months ago, the house across the street was sold to a "father and son"---or so we thought.

We later learned it was an older man about 50 and a young fellow about 24.

This was a respectable neighborhood before this "odd couple" moved in. They have all sorts of strange looking company. Men who look like women and women who look like men, blacks, whites, Indians, and yesterday I even saw two nuns go in there.

They must be running some kind of business or a club. There are motorcycles, expensive sports cars, and even bicycles parked in front and on the lawn. They keep their shades drawn so you can't see what going on inside but they must be up to no good, or why the secrecy?
We called the police department and they asked if we wanted to press charges! They said unless the neighbors were breaking some law there was nothing they could do.

Abby, these weirdos are wrecking our property values! How can we improve the quality of this once-respected neighborhood?--- UP IN ARMS

Dear UP: You could move.

No more than why your neighbor should care that your straight. Also, you mention 'deterioration of the family' when statistically lesbian couples make the most stable and loving parents.

You should care that your neighbor is anything, if you have an interest in knowing who they are, but it is of no impact on the quality of neighbor, or person, for that matter, what their sexual orientation is. Love your neighbor no matter what:)

If your neighbor is gay, he'll keep up the house nicer than anyone else would. He'll be a good neighbor and have a neat yard. He won't park cars in the yard and he won't be making bathtub meth. Your property value will probably go up; people love living next door to gay people.

People shouldn't. Actually, those who think gay people are ruining families should worry more about the fact that 50% of all marriages fail.
