It's a man made disease, so when it suits the powers that be they will release the cure. At the moment it is a means used to control populations.

AIDS is a symptom of HIV infection, where white cell counds drop below 200. Many people with successfully treated HIV infections have been able to live without AIDS. Two noteworthty patients are in modern news as "The Boston Patients", in which a bone grafts increased the white cell counts and effectively "cured AIDS".
It'll be a lot harder to erradicate HIV, but thankfully, the disease gets a lot of research and treatment.
