Wisdom Teeth Removal: I AM TERRIFIED- There is no question here, just need views from fellow wisdom teeth sufferers!

I just saw the dentist today and after an xray, she confirmed that 3 of my wisdom teeth have already partly protruded from my gum (thus the pain), and the fourth is on its way but at an awkward angle. Of the three, one of them have already started decaying (how gross is that?) And she says it wont be long until it'll affect my gum and near by teeth. The other wisdom teeth show signs of being problematic as well, and all FOUR SHOULD BE REMOVED

I think i'll ask at least one other dentist for his/her opinion before I go ahead with it. Maybe I wont need the surgery :D

My boyfriend got all 4 removed, and all they gave him was tylenol 3.......He's a tough man, he had shingles at 19 and suffered through them for a WEEK before i finally convinced him to go to the doctor, and even he said the tylenol 3 did nothing for his wisdom teeth pain

I'm so scared =X

That's all they are. wife went in, local anasthetic, 20 minutes later she's out with usually "I can't feel my lips" wonderment and job done. No infection, NO "they have to pop your jaw out" etc etc.. simply, easy and done. It's routine these days.

Honestly, if surgery can be pleasant (!), that is almost how I'd describe my wisdom teeth removal! However, mine were 90 degrees impacted and so, thankfully, I was anesthetized under a local for the procedure.
My Dr. Also had a great idea: He gave me my pain killer prescription a day BEFORE the surgery and had me take one pill just prior to surgery so that it would already be in my system post-op, (a Xanax helped too)! I felt great while still under the local effects of the anesthesia, I'm thinking I was probably a little high...
Anyways, my ONLY negative experience was getting Dry Socket a few days later. Even the narcotics didn't work for that... I got dry socket because I smoked cigarettes, (even only one or two can do it!!), and no matter how careful I was, I still got it, and had to have numbing gauze inserted at the surgical site, since painkillers do NOT work!
All of that said, the dry socket was my own fault and could have been avoided..! :)
Good luck, hope that's at least a little bit encouraging!
*** PS: I just saw your "odd angle," comment. Trust me, ironically, it could be a good thing, because then you get to be knocked out rather than awake for the procedure! "Impacted," just means, "odd angle...". ;)

I had mine removed at 17, two one week and the other two the following week. I am not going to say it didn't hurt, it did. I didn't get anything to help the pain, only OTC's. It will clear-up in a few days, after having it done.

In addition to what the doctor gives you, try mixing clove oil and raw honey together to help the pain. This topical mixture will help. Try 4-5 drops of clove oil per 1 tsp of honey, and dab on the area to relieve the pain.

    Good luck.

Instead of wasting time with another doctor, get the teeth out. But first go to the supermarket and buy food to eat during the four days it will take to recover:

    - canned soups (eaten at room temperature, not hot)
    - noodles
    - yogurt
    - pudding
    - jelly powder
    - juice
    - milk

and other soft foods that won't drive up your blood pressure or warm the blood and cause oozing.

Of course, you could choose to be stupid and avoid going to the dentist:

    http://www.redding.com/news/2007/apr/02/boys-death-from-tooth-infection-is-an-eye-opener/

Those people were poor, so they weren't stupid. But those who can afford to do it are idiots for not getting the work done. A week of discomfort is worth than months of infections and eventual death.

I appreciate your advice, but resent your word choice, specially "stupid" and "idiot." I understand your main point though, so I guess its ok. Just felt a little offended -.-

I had all four out as well as four normal teeth, if you go under its not that bad. My gum did get infected a few days after though so its a good idea to keep an eye on them. If you can afford to, it is a good idea to get them out, feels so much better after!

Sorry... I never got any. Genetic luck :)

But if you've already got decay and your dentist recommends it... sounds like good advice.

See what serious pain relief you can get. It sounds ridiculous to suffer unnecessarily!
