With shows as "The Biggest Loser" is there too much emphasis on getting "Thinner? "?

Is it a money grabbing industry?

I am the first one to jump on somone's case when they make a comment about somone's weight. I am not exactly overweight, myself, but I just don't like negative comments, in general. That said, if you ever took a look at most/all the people on that show, you'd notice they are OBESE people, not just overweight! If you are truly overweight, it is NOT only unsightly, but, MUCH more importantly, it is VERY UNHEALTHY and with Heart Attacks being one of the leading causes of death, I feel that one should only take more care of their weight, for that reason, NOT so much for what it looks like to be taht way!

I certainly reap what I sow.

I'm fat. Obese, really. Don't like it, tough. I'm gonna live my life, and you go ahead and live yours. I always say to people who don't like my size, they can kiss my ***.

I think its a good show on people getting motivated on setting a goal and sticking to it. Sure there is much emphasis on being thiner on our society which is not as healthy as it should be. A reason why I myself have always been more attracted to personality rather then judging a book by its cover. At the same time if people are depressed because they are over weight then is it not a good thing to know there is something you can do about it to feel better about yourself?

I don't think the emphasis on that show is "getting thinner" but in changing something that one doesn't like about themselves, and finally, with help making that change. We all have bad things about ourselves that need to be changed, and some are life threatening but we don't pay attention. Some are little like wearing seat belts instead of ignoring them, or cutting down on smoking, or changing an unsafe weight....

that show focuses on obese individuals and encourages weigt loss and health improvement, not necessarily being 'thin'.....i feel its a positive influence for anyone who is uncomfortable with their weight and wishes to improve it. i dont necessarily agree with shows like americas next top model, where the emphasis there seems to be tall, ridiculoulsy thin, and flawless....i dont watch reality tv though, so my opinions may not be very valid.

ABSOLUTELY! We all need to be healthier, but this constant focus on competition to solve every issue & putting it on TV is ridiculous!

Let's all just get healthier!

The show, if you have ever watched it, is about getting healthy.

This show is all about money. Jillian Michaels is making a mint with her website, videos, etc.

The normal person cannot lose the amount of weight that the show participants do. They are in an artificial environment and basically their job is to lose weight. The rest of us have to live in the real world and we can't lose 12 pounds in 1 week.

Many health care providers are NOT fans of this show because it is unrealistic about weight loss and the time and patience involved in doing it healthfully.
