I use to drive a tow truck and I'd see cops helping stranded white women all the time

I was once given what is called a courtesy ride home by a police officer. It was late at night, the buses were no longer running, and no cab was going to arrive for at least forty-five minutes.

Just the other day, I stopped to fill up my truck, and a cop car pulled up to the pumps....a policeman got out of the driver seat, and another man got out of the passenger seat....he was not dressed as a cop, he looked quite rumpled and shaggy, and he had long hair, so I believe he was not a policeman....anyway, the cop went to the trunk, opened it, and took out a gas can...he filled it as the other man went inside to pay....then they both got in the car again, and drove away....I thought it was strange, that he was in the front seat...I was under the impression that only policemen are allowed in the front....

If stranded and they are not on a call I can't see why not?
You simply cannot hitch a free ride.
