No, I would prefer they interact with the voters in person. It gives you more of a sense of the candidate. As to the debates, hypothetically they should be valuable for weeding out the loosers, but in truth it hasn't worked in recent history. They just tell people what they think they want to here, not what they really believe.

But they are not good at much. Anymore, they simply show who is capable of memorizing the stuff of the moment. And really, a president is an administrator before he is anything else. A person's ability to manage others well difficult to detect by watching debates.

True, their management skills are demonstrated through their track record, though. That certainly wasn't the case last go around, though. Obama had no management skills or real world experience before he became President, and certainly didn't demonstrate any his first 4 years. Romney had a wealth of it, yet it didn't really matter to the majority of voters. Romney was painted as a rich stiff who didn't care about people while Obama was this benevolent figure who cared for all. Truth was just the opposite. People's perceptions seem to count more than reality here. A candidate's command of current events, and their ability to defend their positions does count for something. In the end, who ever gets elected should be working for us, not vice versa. The uninformed voter seems to be in the majority currently. I wonder if that will ever change?

No. Travelling and participating in debates, answering questions, being in the hot seat, managing money, lets people assess your political views and how good of a leader you might be BEFORE they hand over the entire country to you.

I'd like to think that debates are meaningful, but what I have seen over the course of my life is that almost all candidates will say whatever it takes in front of one audience and another in front of a different audience because they see the process as a direct link between Words and Votes instead of the superior indirect link of Words to Confidence and Trust to Votes. AS far as leading or managing a country or state, the ability to campaign has no baring on either.

It still weeds them out. I mean, when a candidate says their fav book is War and Peace and then quotes "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times" you know that guy's a poser. And even if you don't feel that either is important, it still gives a better indication than the guy hiding behind a computer somewhere who doesn't attend debates or manage large sums of money.
