Would you agree with this statement?

My Psychology professor told us once that everyone reacts to life in only two ways, in other words; they do something because.. (1.) They want something.... or (2.) They want to get away from something......think about it.
We are motivated by desire or fear........

Yes, I agree with the "love or fear" motivation. If you analyse things closely, you will find that these are the two primary motivations.

I suppose since you could really extend those two statements to mean pretty much anything than yeah. I mean I volunteer a lot and what I want from that is for the society I live in to be better and to help people... so that is essentially a desire I have. You would have to be imaginative for some things but you could apply those two things to mean pretty much any motive I think.

I agree. Take the getting to work example. We go to work because we want to get paid, and we fear being fired if we don't show up. The statement is a huge simplification, but I think it's essentially correct.

You could say everything in life is desire, without desire you don't "do" anything, including running away from your death.
It's the "something" that sounds a bit too material , is knowledge a thing?

i do things because I want to, i didn't cross the street for fear or because I wanted something, I just felt like it, and I didn't have kids because of fear they were accidents that I felt blessed to recieve, so no I don't agree
