Would you do this?

i was watching one of my favorite shows last night "without a trace" and a lady agreed to be the lone holdout on a jury because her mother was being threatned, plus she did it for money. would you do that if you were offered a large sum of money or to protect your family?

I would do whatever it took to protect my family, even if it meant damaging my integrity. My family is my life. They complete who I am.

Tough question. Does any one of us know exactly how they would handle being coerced by threats to others? I would, if possible, seek the protection of my family and prosecution of the people. if known, who were intimidating us. As for doing it for money...absolutely NOT!

For family, especially my mother, yes. & depending on the circumstances (what the trial was for), yes about the money as well.

Definitely not for money...but you never know what you would do to protect your family. I would like to think I'd find another way to protect my mother in this situation, but we all know that police custody is not always "protective" nor do restraining orders always "restrain" murderers.

I think its a very difficult and horrid situation when you are asked to balance off your integrity against the life of another - family or not. To stubbornly assert your integrity is more or less dobbing in the other threatened person and condemning them to death.

Of course one could look at it this way: One's integrity is paramount; and whatever the threateners do about that is their responsibility and on their head. And if they choose to kill someone because of it, they will have to take the karmic consequences.
And death is not the end of a human being anyway - its less of a deal than most think - but I don't suppose the person killed would see it that way (while here and "alive", anyway)!

I really don't know what I would do in real life, if in this situation. I would probably take into consideration the gravity of the case being tried - would it be vitally important that the accused there were convicted? You have to try to think of "the best for all concerned". I would definitely not do it for money - that would certainly be ill-gotten gains.

I don't think anybody knows until they are in a situation. I would like to think I deffinately would not do it for money, but, if it came to my family, I would deffinately have to think about it. (Like how much I really cared about that family member. Lol) :)

If a person is as easily swayed as the people here tend to indicate, the is a most unfortunate statement regarding the lack of commitment to honesty and standing up for justice.
In the real world, I would go to the Judge and inform him of what has transpired.

No. If we submit like this then the bad guys win.

No, I would not do it for money even in this economy! But for family -- well, I would be completely torn. I'd consider the situation and probably tell the judge if I thought I had a reasonable chance of protecting my family afterwards -- but if it were a mob boss or something like that -- gosh, I might feel compelled to turn to the dark side.

First of all, don't think I would get pass the questions they ask you to be on a jury. Money to hold out, no.
