Only for the purpose of historical research, and only with the person's permission (if they were alive), or with the permission of their family (if they were dead).

it depends on why... once a girl who had a crush on my boyfriend at the time was calling and texting me saying he was cheating on me with her and me & him got in an EPIC fight and broke up and like a month later i saw her car parked at the friendly neighborhood dope dealer's house (who just happens to be one of my bestest buddies in the world) and out of curiousity i walked up while she was inside (buying catnip cuz my buddy thinks she's a ***** and she's stupid enough to keep trying to buy from him lol) and jacked her little 'diary' (which is a journal her therapist told her to keep and she writes in it CONSTANTLY, takes it everywhere she goes)... i read it and it turns out that the past 5 months she had been writing about how much she hates me and she wished what she was saying about my boyfriend was true and she wished it was HER having his baby instead of me and she's been trying to put a strain on our relationship by saying she was ******* him to make me not trust him and make us argue & break up (which actually worked, oddly enough)... so i told him to read it and now he doesnt speak to her and we're married

depends on who the person is.. and the why

I would never invade someone's privacy though

and I never ever had a journal/diary because people cannot be trusted.
