Resolved Question
Would you go vegetarian if you had to slaughter your own meat?
This one I had to think about carefully and not put my own personal views into. There were so many well thought out answers it took me ages to make a decision. One of my favorite group of responses ever.

yes, without a doubt. i couldn't bear the thought of killing any animal, ever. even if i was literally starving and had nothing else to eat, i honestly don't know if i could go through with something like that.

Nope, Personally I think we are omnivores. Love a salad with my steak. but I want the steak.
May not be politically correct but then again who says plants dont have feelings?

Nah. I grew up killing animals and eating them. Its not a problem for me. Now, if I had to grow all my vegetables... I would be screwwed! Think about how many vegetables the average vegan eats. Can they grow all their own, or even FIND all the food that they would need? It would become their full time job.

I definitely would. I could never harm an animal, much less kill it. I tried being a vegetarian for a while (it didn't last) & I'll probably try agn. I hate the fact that I eat meat bc I love all animals so much, but I still do it. That wld definitely make me quit.

Yes.

It's hypocritical, but... definitely.

If I had to slaughter my own meat, it wouldn't be such a taboo thing - we would be used to it. So no, I wouldn't. This fear of touching the raw material is due to us being born into a society of product consumers, I think. The world is 'refined' in so many ways before it reaches us, thus creating hypocrisy.

YES!! But let me tell you that I dont want to wait that long to be one. I want to be one now but it can be difficult. I do not believe in slaughter of animals for mans purpose or pleasure. Everything on this earth has a purpose but I dont feel its to be slaughtered. Meat is bad for us and the way man has taken care of his cattle today is only for money. Must everything be killed for greed? Plants grow in the ground and fruits on trees but the animal has a heart and a family just like you and me. Would you turn to cannibalisum if you didnt have a piece of meat?

No. I think man is an omnivore. I think we need some meat to be healthy and survive. I bet the first 100 times I had to slaughter a chicken or cow, I would puke. But, for my survival and the survival of my family, I'd still do it, and would probably get used to it in time.

I disagree with everyone above. You may be surprised.

I worked as a butcher for seven years. And being in that industry actually made me much more appreciative and aware of meat, meat products and all the hard work, skill, and sacrifice involved behind the scenes. I'd imagine a livestock farmer might feel the same way. And it's NOT just because I was getting paid to do it.

I respect the slaughterers. And, in a strange way that's difficult to explain, I "respect" the animals that we eat.

I don't know about you, but I'm in the mood for a thick juicy steak!

I would have to say no I wouldnt. I agree that humans are omnivorous (as are many other species). For centuries, and even millenia, humans have both gardened and hunted/raised animals for meat. Today we dont have to do these things ourselves, though there are many who still choose to do so. But if I had to hunt or raise animals for food....then yes I would learn to do it the most humane way possible, and I would follow the Native American' belief in the respect for the animal for offering itself to be used for food or whatever other needs it met. I also would not take more than was needed or would be used, and always try to give back.

No,If you had a farm to be able to raise your own meat, you could ensure what was put into it. When you buy eat from a store, youn really don`t know what it was fed or shot up with.

No, but I'd cherish them and treat them well because to me they are a gift from the earth for my nourishment.
