if i were drafted, NO MATTER WHAT i would flee the country. i think the tactics that are used by the military to recruit people are abominable and forced service is obviously worse. and if i were a gay man? no WAY i would die for a country who treated me like a second class citizen!

Regardless of my sexual orientation I would refuse to serve period. All these "wars" are legally dubious, and smack of corporate imperialism. Let the politicians put themselves on the true front lines;. let them send their children and grandchildren off to war.

And I am proud Veteran. I just don't by into the bullshit anymore.

p.s. I had no problems serving w/ homosexuals when I served. And yes there were a few. Due to the overt bravado and pervasive homophobia I witnessed, its sad to say that I think its the interest of personal safety that those homosexual members who choose to serve in the armed forced keep their orientation very close to themselves. The military culture can be very unforgiving to those they perceive as different. Sad but true.

I wouldn't do it and I'm not homosexual.

If everyone refused to fight there would be no wars.

There will be no draft as the military requires willing participants these days. Members of a unit don't want to be with unwilling people, especially in combat. Its counterproductive to draft unwilling or non prototypical men (people too small or too large, people who have mental disorders, degenerative diseases, missing parts, uneducated, antisocial, etc) in this era of the military. If there was a draft, I would enlist and join the branch and MOS that I that I could do the most good. I am an Army veteran who served in the eighties. The US won't be involved in major ground combat in the near future after they leave Afghanistan. We wasted too much in the middle east recently and didn't achieve long reaching goals.

There is no need for homosexuals to enter the military, so why would a homosexual worry? If there was a draft you would come up with an excuse (deferement: medical, legal, education, consciencous objector, etc).

The country that you serve will never be perfect. I served for the positives ( the incredible opportunity afforded to my family, my wife's family and all my antecedents) and continued progression of the USA. Its a great country but has always issues and injustices to work out. The issues with homosexual marriage have recently surfaced and will be addressed by the next few generations with a different more permissive perspective. Huge social issues don't get decided at the snap of the finger.

Those who would not serve won't be asked or compelled. You are useless to the military so don't worry and please don't flee, it's shows you to be weak and overreactionary. How do you cope with actual problems in your life?

As long as there is humanity there will be groups seeking to overtake another. You have to be pretty naive to believe having no military is a good thing for your homeland.

Lastly, you choose to serve and its a personal choice. Its also a personal choice to be gay or to run, give up your livelihood in fear of the draft that will never occur. Good Grief.
