You can now lease them in many states. The cost is really about that of a new car roughly relative to the house. It's not so small that it is not noticeable, but the cost can be absorbed. I wonder how committed most folks are to really doing what they want everyone else to do.

Hmmm, collector for heating or panel for electricity? Making the passive solar heating mainly just needs PVC tubing, water, and black paint I think

True, Ernie, if you want to do it the old fashioned way -- which I like. But the newer solar-electric panels are somewhat more expensive.
