Would you take the chance of losing your job?
I have the oppurtunity to take a course to become a certified interpreter for the court (the next course will not be untill may of next year). My dream is to become a freelance interperter, I already have my medical certification. But if i take the 2 day course I will have to miss work since the course is in Indy. I would more than likely be fired. Should I take this big leap and start my own business or keep waiting like I have been doing?someone help.Give me your opinons.

I would only take the chance now if I had some savings to live off of for at least 3-4 months. If you lose your job and you end up homeless, what good is the course, right? If you don't have savings, plan to so you can take the course in May of next year.

If you do have savings...go for it now! Why not?

Try explaining to your employer that you need this course to broaden your work experience. Maybe it could be used for the benifit of the company you work for now. I wouldn't mention anything about the possibility that you are looking to go freelance. That would be just shooting yurself in the foot so to speak.

Can't you take vacation?

How about maybe just telling them the truth? Perhaps take the days off without pay.

Do it. If you wait too long, you'll have missed many great opportunities.

Opportunities come and go. If you don't chase your dreams then you may regret it. Ask your current job for 2 personal days off for the class.

no one is going to hand you your dream of what you want to do and nothing you want to do is goign to be easy, all you have to do is make sure that those close to you are there for you and know what you're donig that way if you should need some help they will be there for you. but don't give up your dreams because they are hard or people are trying to stop you, don't let others step on your dreams because they can't achieve their own. take this from a guy who loves being a mechanic and saving lives, i do my job in the us army while getting shot at in iraq.

Finding a job that you truly love, doesn't happen that often. If dreams are achievable, then go for them, even if you have to wait a few months for them to happen.

Only you know if your financially stable, if you choose to go to certification for court interperter test, knowing that your current boss may fire you.

I'm wondering tho, why would your boss what to fire you if you asked for a few vacation days. I am a supervisor and when my staff ask for a day off with a short notice, I try everything possible to get them that vacation day.

My daughter went through a very similar thing. She made the jump and haven't looked back :) This is your life no matter the age or what sort of past you have. Happiness has to be the utmost solution.. Are you happy where you are? Would you be happier to make the jump? Most of all, answer to yourself truthfully, and to your current situation, tell the truth to your boss, its best to leave on good terms. Wishing you all the best, and good luck :)
