No. A person like that needs to get out of any relationship or skeleton there of and get therapy before he or she tries again. The repeated damage from living with an abusive person will never leave you, so even if they change you will remain changed, usually to the negative, forever. It speaks to our low self esteem if we continue a relationship like that. Kick 'em out, you deserve better!

I wouldn't be with him if he was abusive. Change is not an easy thing for a person to do.....

I want my husband to change for the better and stay that way. Sorry for airing my dirty laundry but I'd like others to know that they aren't alone in this.

No. People don't change. An abuser will always be an abuser.

Yes, but I think that I wouldnt be around to see it. My view of physical abuse is that the first hit is the last - goodbye, and no second chances

My current partner is abusive- physically, emotionally, and sexually- and of course I want things to change... but somehow when it comes time to walk away all I can see are the times he's been good to me :/

If they are abusive, OF COURSE! Who would NOT want an abuser to change, particularly if you are the target of their abuse?

Just keep in mind that "CHANGING" does not mean SAYING IT...it means getting professional help with the situation. Most of those who do not get help (and the majority DON'T seek professional counseling) DO NOT CHANGE. THey do for a short time...even months...but before a year passes, they are right back on the course they were before they supposedly "changed."

Without professional help, battling the feelings and demons that make them go off like that, it's just lip service...nothing is going to change permanently.
