I'm one of the biggest GN'R fans ever. I loved Axl for years but he ruined one of the best bands ever. He did have some mental issues which probably contributed to some of it but he barely even saw the rest of the band until they were on stage. He did most of his vocal tracks for UYI alone in the studio, he didn't tour with the rest of the band he caused tons of riots and angry fans by waiting until HE was ready to go on stage. They were banned from a lot of cities because of him. They could have been as big as the Stones if his ego didn't get so out of hand.
The only reason he's still using the name Guns N' Roses is because he made the rest of the band sign the name over to him or he was gonna refuse to go on when they opened for The Rolling Stones. His new band definitely does not deserve that name. He pissed off so many of his new band members that most of them quit. That's why it took him 10 years to release Chinese Democracy.
He's so self centered that when my brother went to see the new GN'R in Philly, he didn't even show up. They were booked for 2 nights...the first night turned into another riot, so the second night got canceled. Where was he? In NYC watching a basketball game.
I've seen the real GN'R 5 times live and they were absolutely incredible. Axl's voice and stage presence was magical. Seeing the way they interacted on stage, you would never dream what was going on off the stage. I was extremely lucky to see them live.... they were some of the most memorable nights I've ever had but I wouldn't see him now if it was free.

I agree with most of what you say.. but there was a lot more going on than ego and still is... yes Slash is awesome .. don't like the new guy.. well don't like him trying to reproduce a legend .. and he can not and ever, will not and should not even try to play the sweet child of mine of all songs.... any of the gnr songs from the past, it is a total disrespect ...No one knows what the real deal is.. : ( Yeah I know what you mean ..Axl was..but he still is .. you just gotta know his heart... and all ya are seeing is a effed up version that is put out there for ya to see with no truth of the situation.. but I guess some some privacy has to be kept... : ( <3

Like I said, I am a huge GN'R fan. It started in 88 and I followed anything and everything that I possibly could. I had every MTV news clip taped. I kept a tape in the VCR in case they were on anything. Most of his craziest started during the UYI recordings. He quit drugs, started working out and started turning into an a$$. I knew a lot of what was going on but found out a lot more when I read Slash's book. I still Axl and always will...the old Axl. When he came out of...where ever he was after they broke up...I flipped out at how much he had changed. Those awful braids, no eyebrows, and his face was...weird. I didn't know what to think but I knew it was over.

I have an original Guns & Roses album that was printed in Australia. My son had their albums and I have to say I played it more than he did. I loved the song "Sweet Child of Mine" I just think its sad that he had the abuse in childhood. That certainly doesn't help later in life.
