The only people that wont have guns with gun control are the law abiding citizens.
Riiiiight. Never looked at the rest of the world have you? Places like Japan where control works wonderfully well and they only have an average of 2 gun deaths per year.
Mexico has strict gun control laws too. Many types of guns are banned. But that doesnt stop the drug cartels and other criminals there from getting them.
Never looked yourself. Do the before and after evaluation on Japan or any other country before commenting. In all those situations, the rate of gun crime was already very low BEFORE the implementation of gun bans. BTW - until recently, family annihilation was not considered a crime in Japan. Men who were shamed (perhaps fired from a job) who save their family from disgrace by murdering them and then killing themselves. It's called a cultural difference. The FBI's UCR (Unified Crime Report) has all the data we need to see just how well gun control really works. Look at Washington DC if you REALLY want to understand just how ineffective gun control laws can be. DC has a population about the size of Vermont or Wyoming, has stricter gun control laws than any of the 50 states, has a lower gun ownership rate than any of the 50 states, but has, by FAR, the highest gun murder rate per capita. DC's murder rate is 4 times higher than the US national average and almost 2 times higher than our most violent states. "Ohhh...but DC is not a US state." you say. Correct - it is a major metropolitan area. And guess what - the FBI's UCR shows us that 90% of gun homicides occur in major metropolitan areas, i.e., the inner city. That's right, the vast majority of gun crimes are committed by gang bangers and druggies...the sorts of people that are not exactly law abiding. Another key piece of data...the states with the strictest gun laws have to lowest gun ownership. They do not necessarily have low gun crime. Just goes to show us that guns laws take guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens, leaving the criminals as those still holding guns. No thanks...not the world I want to live in.
In 2012, Mexico reported something like 13,000 or 16,000 gun murders to the United Nations. The US had just over 9,000. Venezuela was higher than Mexico. But Brazil topped the charts with a whopping 34,000 gun murders. Drug cartels indeed. In the US - 90% of gun homicides occur within the inner cities - gang and drug related. Imagine how well gun laws work on gang members and drug dealers.
Wow...you may not even know just how correct you are on that one. I actually reviewed the data, ranking the states by the number of gun laws, the number of gun homicides per capita and the gun ownership per capita. There is no statistical correlation between the number of gun laws and gun crime. No one can look at that data and ever come to the conclusion that more gun laws save lives. BUT, there is a very strong statistical correlation among those states with the strictest gun laws, and having the lowest gun ownership. So yeah, once gun laws take guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens, only criminals will have guns.
THANK YOU! Finally a person with a brain! I personally have yet to see one story or incident where a criminal actually gave a **** about a gun law!
I am from the UK and I cant believe how easy it is to get hold of a gun in the states. Sorry but we think your nuts, how many more schools need shooting up before you finally realise?
Only because we make so many of them and they're not regulated. If you make a million guns it's much easier to find one than if you stop making them.
That's true. But with more strict gun control laws it will be harder to get a gun to an average person and hopefully it will be almost impossible to buy a gun for a mentally unstable person or a kid.
They will just steal the guns from someone that legally has one then.
Some will, but some won't have the guts/brains for it. Making it as easy as walking into a store and getting a gun is better? You honestly think so?
90% of gun homicides occur within inner cities. Gang and drug related. How does gun control stop them?
Do you honestly believe that gun control laws will stop criminals? If someone is truly insane, what form of gun control will prevent them from getting a gun illegally?
Or just buy one off the street.
i see what you mean. It wasn't that crazy guy that bought those guns anyway.... it was his mom so see there's always a way..
I agree sweetie, it is not the guns that need to be banned, it is the physcio's that shoot the guns.
No law is perfect ...but common sense has to come to the forefront here ... that's how we have gotten to the place we are now the first 3/4ths of the 20th Century there was basically NOTHING done in regards to this issue the NRA and Right had free havoc over Congress and gun manufacturers FLOODED the market with all sorts of killing machines ... hell a person can't even sue the gun manufacturers thanks to the NRA and the Republican party ... anyway a fix isn't going to happen right away but steps however small they might be need to start being taken ... again not only the guns but on the mental health side of things too ... it's unbelievable that the freaking ACLU and NRA could be bed partners on this issue but as they say politics makes strange bed fellows
Well years ago Canada made a gun control law it was very expensive to tax payers but it wasn't affective and it made things worse (in my onion). There were only a couple million guns in Canada so it seems like an impossible task to control 350 million guns. So the only thing I can think of to help the situation in the United States is don't use Canada as an example of how to go about it. Cheers!
Well then...we should forget about control and just start handing them out! Thank you for this wisdom, I see the light now!
