For some it is fear. For me at the moment, there isn't a woman that I know of that is interested in me as far as romantically. Last year was a different story, but at that time, the woman I dated knew that I had feelings for her. The issue however wasn't fear, but it was later realizing that this was a woman I couldn't not marry. She and I were not right for each other, so we decided not to see each other anymore.
I digress, the point to this question should be realizing that fear can come into play for some. There are those that are fearful of rejection, so they assume that the person may not like them, when the signs are there. Then there are those that believe they will be rejected based past failures or rejections. Then there are those that are fearful of the unknown. Point being, fear can cause one to step backward and not take a chance that is there for the taking. Like (1)
