It's a way of influencing people by suggestion. It only holds weight within suggestible people's minds - when it comes under critical scrutiny it all just falls apart. It's just wish fulfilment.
James Randi has a million dollar prize to anyone who can show, under rigorous scientific examination, that they have some kind of paranormal gift. As far as I'm aware no one has yet passed the preliminary round.

80% is fake. 19.8% is caused by a natural phenomena either misinterpreted or yet undiscovered. That last 0.2%? You don't want to know. Trust me.
